The ESDPhD Network is designed specifically for social and natural science PhD candidates, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches. It builds on the strengths of the leading universities in system dynamics in Europe. The courses offered cover all aspects of the system dynamics modeling process and go well beyond the knowledge and skills taught in existing master level courses. In addition to gaining in-depth expertise in system dynamics, living and learning across different campuses and cultures will be an enriching experience on both the academic and personal level that will help the PhD candidates develop the intercultural and personal skills necessary to compete in an environment where collaboration across disciplines and backgrounds is becoming ever more important.
Central to the network is a three-year cycle of six one-week PhD-level courses that are complementary to each other, to be offered by faculty from the Universities of Bergen, Lugano, and Stuttgart, the New University of Lisbon, Radboud University (Nijmegen), and from Emlyon Business School (Lyon). The courses are to be offered at the home institutions of the respective faculty. For more detail on the courses click here. Those courses are in addition to a variety of courses that candidates take within their home institutions and that cover their domains/fields of specialization such as sociology, organization theory, strategy, finance, operations, entrepreneurship, sustainability studies, public policy.
